Hiroshi Tanahashi (棚橋弘至, Tanahashi Hiroshi, born November 13, 1976) is a Japanese professional wrestler who works primarily for New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW). His accolades in NJPW include being a record setting eight-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion, a two-time IWGP Intercontinental Champion, a three-time IWGP Tag Team Champion and a three-time NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Champion. Tanahashi holds the record for most reigns as the IWGP Heavyweight Champion, while his fifth reign held the record for most successful defenses with eleven until May 5, 2018. He has also won NJPW's premier tournament, the G1 Climax, on three occasions (2007, 2015 and 2018) and won the New Japan Cup twice, in 2005 and 2008.
