Kansas City answered McCaffrey's score with its only successful drive of the first half.
Patrick Mahomes led the Chiefs 65 yards on 13 plays, but the drive stalled out with a field-goal attempt from Harrison Butker.
Butker converted on the 28-yard field goal to move the Chiefs within one possession before halftime.
