Personal Statement

Hello, My name is Summer McDougall and I am a center fielder/utility player. My goal is to play softball at the collegiate level. When I started playing softball at 5 years old, I quickly fell in love. When I was younger I used to think this sport was just a game and for fun, and although it is, to me it’s more than that. Fastpitch Softball is not a sport to joke around with, and I was lucky enough to realize that at a young age. Throughout the game I have encountered many different types of players and coaches, and even throughout all the rough times I have always managed to stay positive, supportive, and encouraging of everyone around me. I am forever thankful to my family, especially my parents, without them I would never be able to achieve my goals. I am not sure how I would ever repay them for the time, money, and support they have given me for over 10 years now.

I strive to keep my academics in good shape, and as I am going into my 2nd semester of sophomore year I have maintained a 3.0 GPA and scored a 1060 on my SAT. I want to attend a college with a strong Human Resources program. If I have learned anything throughout this tough time is that communication, time management, and respect are so big. I also have maintained a part time job, working at a local ice cream shop, on top of school and softball. I have always felt that when softball was involved that I would work harder. With this strategy I have learned to live with softball in so many different aspects of my life. There is a way to battle softball, work, and school no matter how difficult it becomes.
