**UPDATED MY PROFILE ON 7/3/16****ADDITIONAL PRESS LINKS ADDED 5/18/16****UPDATED MY VIDEO ON 6/2/15""
Dear Coach,
I am have completed my senior year at Bishop LeBlond High School having competed in varsity football, basketball, and golf. Our golf team won the 2016 Missouri Class 2 Golf State Championship shooting a two day total of 602 winning by 46 strokes over the next low team. I shot a 79 on the first day and 76 on the second day for a 155 total, finishing 12th overall and being awarded All State honors (I also received All State honors in football). My two major goals for the season were to win the team State Championship and make the All State team. It feels good to have accomplished both goals! I worked hard on improving my grades recently receiving my highest semester GPA at a 3.85 and improving my overall GPA and have improved my ACT score to where I needed it.
I may be unique from some other recruits as I have played three varsity sports while in high school. Below are my sports honors:
School Athletic Honors - Received the Stephen Barbosa Overall Outstanding Athlete Award my Senior year at Bishop LeBlond High School.
Football Honors - quarterback (team captain; starting quarterback; punter; team chaplain; MaxPreps Offensive Team Player of the Year; named to All-City Team-Quarterback; All-Conference Team - punter; All News Press Team - punter; All-District team - punter; and All-State teams - punter, both MO Coaches and MO Sportswriters, selected as member of 2016 Missouri Lion's All-Star Football Game; cornerback (started my junior year).
Basketball Honors - starting point guard and shooting guard senior year (All-City Team); our team won district championships my sophomore and junior years advancing to state playoffs.
Golf Honors - lead team in scoring three out of four years while on varsity. I am a two time Midland Empire Conference (MEC) tournament champion both my freshman year (shot 78) and my sophomore year (shot 2 under 70), 3rd place overall my senior year (shot 75 +3), and 7th overall my junior year (82). I have averaged 76 at this tournament for my career and have received All-MEC Conference honors all four years.
I have received All-District honors all four years recently getting 4th overall my senior year (shot 77 +5). I have averaged 78.5 at this tournament for my career.
I shot 77 in Sectionals my Senior year and 78 in Sectionals my Junior year for 3rd overall each year. I have averaged 79 at this tournament for my career.
I have multiple top 3 or better finishes in our conference, district and sectional tournament championships. I have numerous match medalist honors over the last three years; however, my focus is on how the team does overall.
I have gone to the Missouri Class 2 state golf tournament my freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior years finishing 22nd my freshman year (83,80 - tied for best on team), 16th my sophomore year (86,76 - tied best on team), 18th my junior year (80, 78 - best on team), and 12th my senior year (79, 76). I have averaged 79 at this tournament for my career. Our team won the State Championship my senior year shooting a two day total of 602 and I received All-State honors. I have been awarded MEC All-Conference (all 4 years 9-12), All-District (all 4 years 9-12), All-Area St. Joseph News Press (all 4 years 9-12)), and All-State (senior year; I missed All-State honors by 1 stoke both my sophomore and junior years). My sophomore year I was named the St. Joseph News-Press Player of the Year in the Northwest Missouri/Northeast Kansas areas.
Our team capped off our senior year winning the Class 2 Missouri State High School Golf Tournament; we finished 4th my freshman year and 3rd my junior in this tournament. Our team has won MEC conference championships the last four years; district championships the last four years; and has either been sectional champions or runners up in three of the last four years (winning it for the first time in 2016). My overall tournament stroke average over the last three years has averaged at 78 strokes; my "big tournament" average over my career (conference, district, sectionals, and state has been 77). I have proven that I come ready to play for every tournament and have been consistent and stayed away from ugly numbers in the big tournaments.
My profile is updated through our 2016 team State Championship and includes video of me practicing and playing along with TV news stories covering our sectional tournament in 2015 and state championship in 2016. There is also a newspaper article where my football coach talks about golf helping my mental focus when quarterbacking the football team.
I am very competitive, am a team player, and will work hard for my coach and teammates.
My goals for my senior golf season were to improve my grades (completed final semester at a 3.85 ), work hard at improving my golf game, lead our golf team to a state championship in 2016, and to make the all-state golf team to go with my all-conference, all-area (St. Joseph News Press), and all-district honors in each category for the past three years. I was absolutely focused on winning State as a team and earning All-State honors my senior season. I achieved all of my goals.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Sam Schanze (graduating 2016)
