Details were released regarding the driving while intoxicated arrest for Patrick Mahomes Sr., who is the father of the Kansas City Chiefs' star quarterback.
Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post cited a police affidavit that said the elder Mahomes was driving with an open Coors beer in the car when police stopped and eventually arrested him on Saturday.
Mahomes also told police he "had a few beers while watching a game at a local bar."
Dunleavy noted it was the third time Mahomes was charged with DWI, with the first two citations occurring in 2008 and 2019. Texas law states he could face up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine for a third DWI conviction.
TMZ Sports reported Mahomes is not prohibited from traveling to Las Vegas to watch his son face the San Francisco 49ers in Sunday's Super Bowl LVIII as part of his bond conditions.
While there was no travel ban, Judge James Meredith of Smith County, Texas, did ban Mahomes from possessing or consuming alcohol and/or illegal drugs. What's more, he must have an interlock device on his car and submit to random testing.
In addition to the multiple DUI offenses, Mahomes was arrested and charged with public intoxication in 2016 when he was in attendance for a football game between TCU and Texas Tech, which is his son's alma mater.
Mahomes previously told Ben Morse of CNN he will be in attendance to watch his son in the Super Bowl.
The Chiefs are going for their third Lombardi Trophy in five years.
