Brett Maher has found a new home following his playoff struggles with the Dallas Cowboys.
The Denver Broncos have signed the veteran kicker to a one-year deal following a minicamp tryout last month, according to Mike Klis of 9News Denver.
Maher spent the 2022 campaign with the Cowboys and put together a solid regular season, making 29 of 32 field goal attempts and 50 of 53 extra-point attempts in 17 games. He also averaged 65.1 yards on kickoffs.
However, the 33-year-old put together a disastrous postseason.
In Dallas' 31-14 win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC Wild Card Round, the Nebraska product missed four of five extra-point attempts, becoming the first player in NFL history to miss three-plus extra points in a playoff game.
In a 19-12 divisional round loss to the San Francisco 49ers, Maher made both of his field goal attempts, but he missed another extra point and fans began to question his status with the Cowboys for the 2023 campaign.
Maher became a free agent this offseason with the expiration of his one-year deal with the Cowboys, but team owner Jerry Jones confirmed in February that the franchise would "start over" at kicker in 2023.
Cowboys special teams coordinator John Fassel then told reporters in May that the team would cast a wide net in its search for a new kicker.
"Anybody else on earth who is not on the team right now is under consideration," Fassel said of the team's kicker opening, per ESPN's Todd Archer. "That's everybody really."
Now in Denver, Maher will likely compete for the starting job with Elliott Fry.
