(CNN) -- Real Madrid are now seven points behind rivals Barcelona at the top of the Spanish Primera Liga table after slumping to a shock 1-0 defeat at struggling Osasuna.

Javier Camunas scored the only goal of the game in the 62nd-minute to lift Osasuna up to 16th place and consign Madrid to only their second league defeat of the season.

Osasuna managed to get a goalless draw from the corresponding fixture last season -- and Jose Mourinho's side again struggled to score against the side from Pamplona.

The only goal came when visiting defenders Raul Albiol and Ricardo Carvalho got themselves into a tangle and Camunas broke the offside trap before firing home.

On-loan Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor made his debut as a second-half substitute, but he could do nothing to prevent Madrid sliding to defeat.

Mourinho told reporters: "I can't fault the players as they did their job. We didn't deserve to lose the three points but we lost against a team that gave everything and had the whole week to prepare for the match.

"It is always difficult in Pamplona and I don't think many teams win here. It is a match that you win by being solid defensively and scoring," added Mourinho.

By contrast, tabe-toppers Barcelona made it 19 wins from 21 league games with a 3-0 win at Hercules, the only side to defeat the champions so far this season.

The victory was Barcelona's 15th in a row, equaliing the record set by the great 1960-1961 Real Madrid side.

Real Madrid's defeat enabled third-placed Villarreal to move to within six points of them after Giuseppe Rossi's 12th goal of the season gave them a 1-0 success at Espanyol.

Elsewhere, the pressure continues on Atletico Madrid coach Quique Sanchez Flores, after his side slumped 2-0 at home to Athletic Bilbao.

Gaizka Toquero scored both the goals for the visitors against a 10-man Atletico side, who had Colombian defender Luis Perea sent off.

Atletico are out of both the Spanish Cup and Europa League and now lie 10 points outside the Champions League places.
