Personal Statement

Dear Prospective Coach,

My name is Luke Johnson.  I am 18 years old and play Varsity SS for Boerne High School.  I will graduate in 2016.  I am 5’10”  and I weigh 145lbs.  I have always loved baseball.  My Dad grew up playing and started me very young. Growing up I played many positions including 1st base, catcher, pitcher, short stop and 2nd base.  I ended up as a middle infielder.   I believe that my athletic ability is what got me here along with my knowledge and instinct for this game.  I have been told that my reaction time and quick muscle is strong. Defense and bunting are my specialty.

Until BHS Varsity I was primarily a 2nd baseman.  When I went to varsity for my Junior season, I was a utility player.  In our 1st tournament ,  I took over short stop and never looked back.  I have a very good vertical jump, and exceptional range.  I have focused a lot of time this summer in the gym. I have always had a way of getting on base and moving around the bases.  I think that my speed is a big help for me. I have played select for the Boerne Battledawgs (10 years) and have been to the state tournament many times. This summer I played for Cookie’s E Train, as a 2nd baseman. I love baseball and the relationships that I have built over the years.  I  enjoy a “brotherhood” which I have always gotten from baseball. I consider myself a great teammate and a great person to have in the dugout.

I am willing to do what it takes to earn my playing time for you.

I would love to stay in one of my family’s home states of Texas or Louisiana.  Although I am certainly open to options that allow me to continue my game.

Thanks for your consideration.

Luke Johnson
