“Living My Best Life”, theoretically, is a bit more complicated than it may appear on the surface. What it reads like in general is that now, as an adult, the vocalist is chillin’. And the reason why such is notable is because initially, as in his youth, he appears to have been under the impression that being a grown up is hard. But now what he has learned in the process of aging and having more responsibilities is to take things in stride.

Therein it is implied, all things considered, that the reason the Ben Rector now finds himself at home in the first place may be due to the Covid pandemic or some type of other less-than-favorable, unexpected career alteration that has forced his fame and success to the backburner.
So the further implication is that the aforenoted epiphany, i.e. the vocalist “learning how to eat the fruit that is in season”, is one that was thrust upon him by circumstance. The narrator coming to the understanding of how to ‘live his best life’ was the direct result of making the most out of a situation.
The Best Life
And further elaboration on what this “best life” actually entails basically boils to a higher appreciation of what we may refer to as the simple things, like the following:
- being on a natural clock (i.e. ‘waking up with the sunrise’)
- having the ability to spend more time with loved ones
Or viewed alternatively, the vocalist had to acclimate to a less stressful lifestyle, one that at first he didn’t even know he wanted. But Ben is able to admit that being at home – as a layman so to speak – is even preferable than being out on the road as a celebrity.

At the end of the day, even though the logical presumption may be that this song was inspired by the Covid stay-at-home orders. However, classifying it as pro-lockdown piece would be a stretch. But to reiterate, the primary message seems to be something akin to living a non-stressful, loving lifestyle is as nature intended.
Ben Rector and “Living My Best Life”
Ben Rector is a musician from Nashville, being 35 years old at the release of this song. And whereas his artistry is generally classified under the pop rock category, to date he has been most notably successful in the folk music field. Two of his albums, “Brand New” (2015) and “Magic” (2018), have topped Billboard’s Folk Albums chart. In 2020, he released another full-length. This album, which was actually a holiday album, is entitled “A Ben Rector Christmas”.
Also judging by the cover art of “The Joy of Music”, the album from which “Living My Best Life” is derived from, Ben Rector is also into children’s music. And in fact the label behind this track is called OK Kid Records.
“Living My Best Life” was released on 7 January 2022. It is one of the singles from the aforementioned album.
