Los Angeles Lakers guard Spencer Dinwiddie is reportedly suing the car shop Wires Only for a $350,000 deposit and other damages regarding a deal he said he arranged regarding a Ferrari and a rare Mustang.
TMZ Sports cited the lawsuit Monday and noted Dinwiddie said he used Wires Only when he bought a 1976 Mustang Shelby for $699,000 in November 2022.
According to the lawsuit, the issues began when he returned to Wires Only a few months later to arrange the deal to purchase a 2022 Ferrari SF90 from the shop's showroom. The agreement was that the company would sell his Mustang and then use the funds to help cover the $1,050,000 cost of the Ferrari.
Dinwiddie wired $350,000 as a deposit for the Ferrari and said if the Mustang didn't sell within 45 days of the Ferrari purchase there would be no deal and he would return the Ferrari.
Per the lawsuit, Dinwiddie attempted to return the Ferrari and get his deposit back when the Mustang didn't sell in the agreed-upon timeframe.
However, he said Wires Only didn't return his money and even retained counsel to fight him regarding the entire situation.
Dinwiddie first came to Los Angeles when he signed with the Lakers in February after clearing waivers following the Toronto Raptors' decision to waive him after acquiring him via trade from the Brooklyn Nets.
The University of Colorado Boulder product has played for the Detroit Pistons, Nets, Washington Wizards, Dallas Mavericks and Lakers throughout his career.
He averaged 6.8 points a night in 28 regular-season games for the Lakers in 2023-24.
