Personal Statement
Hello, I am Josh Seligman, currently a 5'11 160lb PG from the Edmund Burke School in Washington, DC. I am originally from Bogota, Colombia and moved to Maryland at a very young age. Burke is a small private college preparatory school located in Washington DC. We play in the PVAC conference. This conference is made up of mostly small rigorous college prep schools. For my freshman and sophomore years I played in the WCAC at St. Johns College High School in DC. In addition, I have played AAU basketball since I was 10 years old. Most recently I have played for the YBAM Heat. This past summer (2011) we were the Potomac Regional champions and competed in AAU Nationals at the Wide World of Sports in Florida but lost to the eventual champions BABC. My AAU experience has afforded me the opportunity to play against the very best competition in the DC area as well as nationally.
Playing AAU has helped me tremendously during the high school season. During the 2011-12 season I averaged 20.3 ppg and 6 assists and I shot 71% from the Free throw line, and 46% from behind the arc. I had game highs of 29 multiple times against the best team in the conference. Although my team didn't accomplish our major goal, a championship, we competed hard until the end and through lingering injuries to our starting lineup and bench all year. I would best describe my game as an all-around PG who can handle the ball, pass, score, defend, and lead a team. I have a strong handle and jumpshot and I was a team captain this past year. In addition, I was selected to the 1st Team All Conference/PVAC which was selected by the coaches of the conference. Also, my 20.3 ppg average was good enough for 28th as ranked by the Washington Post All-Met which encompasses the entire DC,MD, and VA region. I can be successful in many systems whether it be a fast break system or half court. Defensively I can guard 1's and 2's and can pressure the ball although I would like to improve my team and off-ball defense.
Academically I have been on the honor roll every quarter since my freshman year at both St. Johns and Edmund Burke. My GPA is a solid 3.7 with a 3.6 in my core curriculum. I took the SAT and got a 1880 out of 2400 (superscored) and I do not anticipate having any problems meeting the minimum NCAA requirements at all. After I have my scores I will have my coach send all the necessary documents to the NCAA clearinghouse.
I am looking for a strong academic institution that would allow me to develop as a student and as a basketball player. I am open to playing in Division 1, 2, and 3 and I am confident I can compete at all of these levels.
Thanks, Josh.
