TEMPO.CO, Mexico City - Saman, Ronggeng Ganjen, Yapong, Greget Jawara and several other Indonesian traditional dances enlivened the 20th Zacatecas del Folklor Internacional Gustavo Vaquera Contereas Festival (FZFI) which was held in Zacatecas, northern part of Mexico starting from July 25 to August 2015.
The dances were performed by 18 students of State Highschool 8 Jakarta as representative of CIOFF (Conseil International des Organisation de Festival de Folklore et de’Arts Traditionnels). They performed on stages in Zacatecas including Plaza Miguel Auza, Plaza Bicentario, Plazuela Goitia, Plaza 450 Aniversario, Ciudadela de Arte, Casa Municipal de Cultura, Teatro Fernando Calderon, dan Teatro del Lago.
A release from the Indonesian Embassy in Mexico received by Tempo on August 10 said that the students’ performances gained the crowd’s attentions, even Zacatecas Governor Miguel Alonso Reyes. The team received a standing ovation in their last performance on August 1.
Alongside Indonesia, 15 other countries took part in the festival including Argentine, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Canada, Columbia, Chile, Spain, Egypt, France, Honduras, Russia, Panama, Peru, Poland, and El Salvador.
