WOODSTOCK, Ga. — An explosion of some kind occurred on Thursday at a retirement home, Woodstock Fire Chief Dave Soumas confirmed. Luckily, no elderly persons were actually living there because the facility is still under construction.
The chief said one construction worker was injured and transported for treatment. The Holbrook of Woodstock facility is located off Highway 92.
Soumas added everyone else on site had been evacuated, and no one had been reported being trapped.
Atlanta Gas Light issued the following statement saying a construction contractor was working on a gas line before the incident occurred:
Investigators on scene have determined that shortly before the incident occurred near Highway 92 in Woodstock, a construction contractor was working on a gas line in the basement of the building. Atlanta Gas Light’s natural gas infrastructure has not been impacted. Our thoughts are with the individual who was injured and those affected by this incident.
