Personal Statement
My family moved from Southern California to Princeton, NJ the summer before I began high school. I started with PNRA/Mercer as a novice my freshman year, and continued on as a coxswain for the Men’s Varsity team my sophomore and junior years. I am entering into my fourth year of training. I have grown to truly love the sport of rowing and would be privileged to continue at the collegiate level. I have enjoyed the camaraderie and friendship that come with leading a group of individuals to form a cohesive team of fierce competitors, and ultimately leading them to victory and success.
My experiences as a coxswain have focused me academically, athletically and as an individual. Academically, I have excelled in my rigorous workload to include several accelerated and AP classes. Athletically, I have thrived as a coxswain and helped develop teams to meet their potential. On several occasions, I had been tasked with the responsibility of bringing teams together. Most recently, I was given a group of four individuals- an equal mix of 2V and 3V rowers- who had no chemistry with one another on or off the water. After exhaustively training with them over the course of a month, I developed a cohesive unit that improved their time by 20 seconds, and led them to win the 2021 USRowing Youth Nationals Men’s 4+ Final C, ranking 13th overall in the nation. It is worth mentioning that we were within 2 seconds of the top 12 in time trials, and had an opportunity to be entered into the A/B Finals. During our trip to Sarasota, our tight-knit group of five was also considered by the rest of our club and parent chaperones to be the best, closest, and most fun group of the bunch. As an individual, balancing my academic work with my athletic responsibilities has forced me to remain disciplined and focused. Practices typically run for three hours each day, including weekends, sometimes starting at 5am, including regular school days and the day of my AP exams. As hectic as my schedule can be, I prioritize my mental and physical wellbeing by keeping myself active and spending quality time with family and friends. I am considered by those who know me to be a very positive, motivated, authentic, and likeable person. I make every effort to be inclusive while holding myself and others around me to a high standard. I create a comfortable environment and foster a can-do attitude, while encouraging others to be their best selves, and pushing myself to be the same.
I plan to major in Biology and pursue a career in Medicine. My hope is to continue with my passion for rowing during college while pursuing my career goals as a Pre-Med student. I am open to various locations that will allow me to have the balance that I am looking for academically and as an athlete. I am looking forward to finding the best fit for me to achieve my goals. I am confident that I will deliver the same level of passion, dedication, commitment, and excellence that will be required of me in my future endeavors.
