Personal Statement

Volleyball has molded my life and made me who I am today. Ever since I started playing in the third grade, I've learned many skills, both that I can use on the court and in my everyday life.  I have learned that things are much easier if I use my whole team (or group of friends/support system) rather than just doing something by myself.  I have learned to make friends and increase my social skills in a variety of settings.  By being injured this past school season, I have learned that I am stronger than I thought and I can overcome the difficulties that  come my way.

I feel that being a collegiate student athlete will help me to not only participate in a team sport that I love, but have an immediate sisterhood of friends that I will know for the rest of my life. I feel like I am more motivated to complete my school work when I have additional things to do besides just school work. Ever since I was a little girl, my parents taught me if I want something bad enough, then I need to work as hard as I can so I can achieve it. By having a scholarship to college, this would allow me to be able to continue volunteering and giving back to the community, instead of having to work so hard at earning money to help my family pay for my education. I volunteer with the Alzheimer's Association on a regular basis with my family because it has impacted my life personally.

It has always been my dream of being able to play in the collegiate level of volleyball. If I was accepted for a scholarship, it would not only help me pursue my dream of becoming a college athlete, but it will also help me to pursue my dream of becoming an RN working with children. It would benefit my family, by taking some of the financial burden off them. Getting an education is an important expectation within my family. My family has limited means to be able to send me to a college that has both the academics I am looking for and the volleyball program in which I can play.  It would truly be an honor and a privilege to get this opportunity, and I would work hard trying to make my dreams come true and the coach that chooses me to play with them, proud that they chose me.
