Dallas Cowboys quarterback Trey Lance has made a strong impression on the team's front office thoughout his brief time with the organization.

During a Friday appearance on The K&C Masterpiece on Audacy's 105.3 The Fan, Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones was complimentary of Lance.

"He's done nothing but excite us even more as he's worked here all of last season and in the offseason, in terms of his work ethic, his skill level," Jones said (h/t Jon Machota of The Athletic). "We're very pleased."

Lance was acquired by Dallas in a trade with the San Francisco 49ers in Aug. 2023, with the Cowboys sending a 2024 fourth-round pick in return.

The 23-year-old was selected by the 49ers with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft, although he started just four games in two seasons due to injuries as well as the emergence of Brock Purdy.

Lance did not see action with the Cowboys during the 2023 season, as he sat behind Dak Prescott and Cooper Rush on the team's depth chart. Jones' praise of the young quarterback comes at an interesting time, as Prescott told reporters on Friday that he hasn't started conversations with the team regarding a long-term contract extension.

During Jones' radio appearance, he added that Lance "exhibits similar type work ethic" as the longtime starter.

"Obviously Trey is a really good athlete, and the most important thing is his arm," he said. "He's got a very live arm, very strong arm. He continues to improve with his footwork and his accuracy."

If the Cowboys aren't able to come to an agreement with Prescott, it seems as though the front office is very confident in his backup eventually transitioning into a larger role with the team.
