Personal Statement

Hello I’m Carlos, I´ve been playing soccer all my life, and I want to continue doing it in college. I have lived in three countries, played soccer with people all around the world, received good results in each school that I’ve attended, and made friends in all of them. Today I can say that I´m prepared to fight for my dream: study Business in a good college, and keep playing soccer at the highest level.
I started playing with a small team in Spain when I was four years old. Then I transitioned to my school team, and it was there when I started to be an interest player for Real Club Celta de Vigo soccer scouts, a first division team in the Spanish league. At the age of ten I moved to the Club. We would play in the best league according to our age, and soccer elite tournaments against the best youth teams of Spain, Portugal or Italy.
When I was twelve my family received an important job opportunity and we relocated to Campeche, Mexico. Once there I was not comfortable with the soccer and education level and I wanted to be challenged further. That takes me to my next destination: IMG Academy. I first attended during the summer to find out how everything worked, and how life was there. I went for two weeks, where I received the TOTAL ATHLETE OF THE WEEK award. After two years I can say that it was one of the best choices I´ve made in my life, I improved my athlete and mental skills, I´m an English speaker now and I loved it.
While playing a soccer tournament with IMG in Portugal, a scout from Celta de Vigo came to watch me play and after calling me to play with them I moved to Spain again. I was playing in the elite of youth soccer one more year. That season Real Club Celta de Vigo was awarded as the best youth teams of all the soccer clubs in Spain by the RFEF (Real Federación Española de Fútbol) and the LFP (Liga de Fútbol Profesional).
At the age of sixteen I decided that I wanted to study Business in USA, and should no longer continue with Celta de Vigo. After three years living away from home, I came back to spend my last two years of High School with my family in México. This has also given me time to start looking for colleges, prepare for it, and to choose the best options both athletically and academically. I’ve continued to play soccer and am now training with a personal coach in Strength and Conditioning so that I can be at my best level when scouted for a college. In addition, I am currently working as a soccer assistant coach for younger players in the club that I´m playing for. Obviously I´m working hard on my academics, getting the results that had put me in the top 3 of the class these past two years.
People around me think that I am a leader, having the important qualities of organizing team work, helping others, and finding solutions for my friends or teammates. On the field, I am a team player, my best abilities are game vision and passing, and creating good opportunities for the team.
Now that I´m getting closer to college, I feel that all my life has been leading for me to prepare for it, accomplish my dream of studying Business in a good college, and keep playing soccer at the highest level.
