It appears the Jacksonville Jaguars may have not come close to matching the four-year, $92 million deal Calvin Ridley reportedly signed with the Tennessee Titans on Wednesday afternoon.
However, another source also told The Athletic that the Jaguars and Patriots "made comparable offers."
The Athletic's Dianna Russini added that the Titans offered "the best deal to Ridley of any team."
Dianna Russini @DMRussiniThe Titans put themselves in position to land Calvin Ridley starting last night. I'm told both sides stayed in contact and with Ran Carthon, Chad Brinker, and Brian Callanan's focus on landing the best receiver available, they moved, offering the best deal to Ridley of any team.
The Jaguars and Patriots were considered the frontrunners to land Ridley this offseason before the Titans swooped in with a blockbuster agreement.
Some have suggested that the Titans massively overpaid for Ridley, but the veteran believes he was paid a fair amount:
CALVIN RIDLEY @CalvinRidley1Naw the right amount
Ridley began his career with the Atlanta Falcons as a first-round pick in the 2018 draft out of Alabama before being traded to the Jaguars in 2022.
The 29-year-old recorded one 1,000-plus yard season in Atlanta and was limited to just five games in his final campaign with the franchise in 2021 due to injuries and mental health concerns.
Ridley missed the entire 2022 campaign while serving a gambling suspension, but he put together an impressive 2023 season in his return to the field, catching 76 passes for 1,016 yards and eight touchdowns in 17 games.
With Ridley heading to Jacksonville's AFC South rival in Tennessee, the Jaguars are left with Zay Jones, Christian Kirk, Devin Duvernay and Gabe Davis at wide receiver. The franchise signed Duvernay and Davis earlier this week.
The Titans, meanwhile, will have an offense that now includes Ridley, DeAndre Hopkins, Treylon Burks and Tony Pollard to surround quarterbacks Will Levis and the newly-signed Mason Rudolph.
