Personal Statement

The first time that I stepped foot on basketball court at the age of nine, I would never have thought that basketball would be such a crucial part of my life. I can still clearly remember the day of my last city basketball game of the 5th grade. My basketball season was over for that year and I didn’t feel like I had a good game that night.  I was sad walking out of the gym. As I got to my car, the coach of a travel team in Yuma approached me and offered me a spot to play on his team. He said we would travel all summer long to different tournaments. My eyes lit up. That summer is when I realized that basketball is what I wanted to do.
Ever since then, I have played basketball non-stop. My sophomore year, I also played on a travel team in Phoenix, Arizona called Flight. We played in several NCAA tournaments and I got to really experience playing against excellent competition. The summer going into my freshman year was when I first began traveling with my Cibola High School Varsity basketball team. We compete in tournaments all summer long and competitively practice six days a week. In the off-seasons I play volleyball and participate in track, but I still manage to get in the gym and weight room and work on my basketball skills.
Over the years, I have acquired a consistent 3-point shot. I can shoot from anywhere on the court, including the free throw line. I am very aggressive and confident on the court and am currently a captain and leader of my high school team. I am easy to play with and get along with all of my teammates. I am a hard-working and coachable player.  Playing college basketball would be a dream come true.
My academic goal for high school is to earn a high GPA in order to succeed in college. In college, I want to push myself in academics and hopefully in athletics as well. My goal is to succeed enough to be accepted into a Physical Therapy Program with the focus on Exercise Science.
