The disappointment that Ryan Garcia caused on everybody who wanted him to win against Gervonta Davis is major. Canelo Alvarez appears to have been one of the people who believed Ryan had a chance to win this fight. Ahead of his own fight against John Ryder next Saturday, Alvarez spoke about that fight between Garcia and Davis. He sent a message to Ryan about not getting back on his feet when he felt the pain from that body shot. We have no idea if Canelo knew about Ryan's rib injury but it's clear that he felt Ryan should've stayed up instead of giving up. We are not sure if Canelo has fought with this type of injury before but if he has, he must've been in a lot of pain.
Ryan Garcia's rib injury
The footage after the fight is quite revealing, Ryan Garcia is asked by one of his couches if he stayed down because of the rib injury. At first glance, we all thought the shot was straight to the liver but now we know this was about the rib injury all along. As soon as he takes the shot from 'Tank', it's evident Ryan couldn't continue due to the pain. But Canelo feels he could've moved past it, he spoke to Fight Hub and said: "It was a good fight. I thought there would be a little more action but Gervonta is just too good. Those punches hurt a lot but as fighters, we need to always try to stand up."
The coach who asked Ryan if he couldn't continue due to his rib is Joe Goosen, the fighter himself mentions the reason in the last episode of Showtime's 'All Access'. We are all wondering now how would a fight between Ryan Garcia and Gervonta Davis be like without that rib injury and without the rehydration clause 'Tank' enforced on Ryan. Most boxing fans agree that we would be talking about a completely different fight and likely a completely different outcome. But Garcia knew coming into this that no matter the obstacles, the show must go on. should he feel attacked by Canelo Alvarez's comments or did he do what was right for his body?
