Correction: Better make that a lot of somebodies. For good or ill, some people just like to poke fun at Tebow's faith, which he makes no effort whatsoever to hide.
But how far is too far?
If you ask around, you'll get a lot of people to tell you that the following tweet from comedian Bill Maher is too far. Like, way too far.
Be warned, the tweet contains a naughty word:
So yeah, that happened on Christmas Eve. Not exactly sensitive. In fact, this tweet is about as far from sensitive as tweets get, which is saying something.
Because of that, a lot of people flipped out.
Heck, Tebow's supporters don't like it when critics mock his throwing mechanics and his horribly bad accuracy. But when critics go after Tebow's beliefs, well, them's fighting words.
With this tweet, what Maher essentially did was set the bar much higher. Mocking somebody's beliefs is bad enough. Throwing profanity and references to Satan and Hitler into the mix is downright cruel and beyond inappropriate.
At least such is what the offended crowd would have you believe. Personally, I'm willing to let this whole thing slide.
That Maher went so far with this tweet should come as no surprise. The dude is a notorious atheist, and he's made a nice living for himself by not putting a filter between his brain and his mouth. Going way over the top is what he does, and he's made it abundantly clear that he doesn't give a crap who he offends.
Because I'm not religious, I for one was not offended. But if you are religious, and you were offended, I have one thing to say to you:
Do yourself a favor and don't give Maher the satisfaction. He functions to make some people laugh, and he functions to piss some people off. By getting pissed off, you're doing exactly what he wants.
Instead, just brush this off and go about your business. Tebow himself isn't going to bother fighting this battle, and it serves no purpose for any of his supporters to fight it for him.
Besides, it's not like anybody is going to get Maher to change his ways or even apologize for the tweet. Doing so would be bad for business.
And to be fair, Tebow had a shot to win Maher over a couple weeks ago:
It's a good thing Brady won. If Maher had tweeted "Jesus is king," I'm pretty sure the world would have exploded.
