Personal Statement

I am Austin Lopez, a Senior at Forest Park High School in Woodbridge, Virginia.  I started playing lacrosse at the age of ten when my older brother, a high school varsity player would practice with me.  I loved the freedom of running up and down the field.  I remember being selected for the “A” team during my first year playing with the Prince William Lacrosse Club whom I continued playing for until my freshman year at Forest Park High School.  I worked hard and was selected for the Varsity Team during my freshman year.  I was no longer the “little brother” chasing balls during home games but rather was now a Varsity High School lacrosse player. I have the drive and passion to be the best in all that I do.  I am considered a leader among my peers, a team player and very coachable.  My drive and dedication have given me the opportunity to be on the varsity lacrosse team for three years. This is also my second year playing for the Apocalypse Travel Lacrosse Club.  In an effort to continue to improve my skills and technique, I attended the Radford University summer lacrosse camp in 2017.

In the off season, I compete as a Varsity Wrestler for my High School.  I train hard, push myself to be the best, and work out harder than anyone.  My desire to be the best lead me to compete at State levels winning 4th place in the Virginia State Wrestling Tournament in 2017.  In the classroom, I am a hard working student who performs best in smaller classes.  In that setting, I am most comfortable asking questions and seeking support as needed.

I have a strong desire to continue playing lacrosse in college and later remain connected with the game by coaching youth leagues and playing as an adult. I am looking for a college where I can achieve my goals of having both a great academic and athletic experience.

In my free time, I play lacrosse with my brothers, work out with friends, and watch movies with my family.
